Dr Ana Pokrajac MD MSc FRCP
Dr Pokrajac graduated Cum Laude from the University of Belgrade School of Medicine in Jan 2000 and upon graduation she was awarded training post with the University. In parallel with clinical training, she was doing research and presenting in National and international Conferences. Dr Pokrajac holds an MSc in Endocrinology and her particular focus at the time was Adrenal Insufficiency. She joined an award winning Endocrine Team at the Christie in 2003 where she completed her Medical Doctorate on relationship between GH and IGF-I and metabolic factors affecting it. As a research fellow, she took part in international research projects on acromegaly, GH deficiency and Cushing’s Syndrome. Dr Pokrajac participated in work on standardisation and performance of hormone assessments in the UK. She completed her specialty training with the North Western Deanery in 2012.
Dr Pokrajac was appointed as a consultant in Diabetes, Endocrinology and GIM with West Herts Hospitals NHS Trust in 2012 where she is a Herts Valley CCG Lead for Diabetes and Chronic Kidney Disease. She has special interest in complex diabetes, health-care system performance and cost-efficiency. She teaches medical students and is a RCP accredited educational supervisor to junior doctors.
Dr Pokrajac is an active patients’ advocate. She co-founded Herts Diabetes Education Charity which gathers all stakeholders in diabetes to exchange experience and learn together. For her contribution to integration and improvement of Diabetes Care in Hertfordshire, she was awarded a title of Diabetes UK National Clinical Champion in 2013. With Diabetes UK she has been working on legalisation and standards by contributing to All Party Parliamentary Group for Diabetes.
Dr Pokrajac’s other national roles include: Committee Member for Association of British Clinical Diabetologists (ABCD) and ABCD-Renal Association special interest group core member producing national guidelines for management of diabetes and CKD.
Dr Pokrajac is an active fundraiser for charities for children with special needs and underprivileged communities world-wide. She is a mum who enjoys singing, swimming and cooking that her bellowed ones find intermittently enjoyable.
